The key focus of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between AXP Solutions Sdn. Bhd. [AXP] and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia [UKM] are:

a.    to pursue an holistic approach to the teaching of Auditing, one of the important subject in accountancy course,

b.     Undergraduates' exposure to automated auditing software system and

c.     to narrow the competency gap between accounting graduates and audit practitioners.

The signing was witnessed by:

1.      Yang Berbahagia Datin Prof. Ir. Dr. Siti Hamisah Binti Tapsir, Deputy Director General, Ministry of Higher Education, representing Y.B. Dato Saifuddin Abdulah, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Higher Education,

2.      Ms Ho Foong Moi, Executive Director of Malaysian Institute of Accountant (MIA);

3.      Professor Dr. Mohd. Fauzi Mohd. Jani, The Dean of the Faculty of Economics & Business, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia,

4.      Representatives from MIA, AXP Directors and members, UKM lecturers and participants of the IMAC 5 internationally and locally.

The MoU has initiated collaboration between UKM Faculty of Economics and Business and AXP Solutions Sdn Bhd to incorporate AXP auditing software - Audit Express (AE), into the curriculum of UKM Accountancy courses.
AXP is a home grown Malaysian company whose senior management are all qualified accountants who have a passion for enhancing the efficiency and quality of the auditing profession through the application of information technology.  AE, are widely accepted and used by audit firms in both Malaysia and Singapore.

The collaboration will expose accountancy students at an early stage to the practical aspects of auditing in a computer based environment with hands on experience by using AE.

In his key address in the event programme booklet, Dato Saifuddin Abdullah, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Higher Education said that the collaboration between UKM and AXP promotes joint efforts between practitioners and higher learning institutions to produce dynamic and knowledgeable graduates.

Yang Berbahagia Datin Prof. Ir. Dr. Siti Hamisah Binti Tapsir highlighted in her speech that this collaboration is very importance to ensure quality and marketability of future graduates in accountancy profession.

The director of AXP, Mr Ken Lai said in his speech that more and more audit firms has adopted fully automated auditing software systems, it creates the need for undergraduates to master the auditing IT skill in this aspect and hence initiated the integration of Audit Express into syllabus. AXP hope the industry will also benefit from this collaboration, such as a reduction of costs of training, improvement in the overall performance and the quality of services. AXP initiative is fully supported by MIA.

MIA president En.Abdul Rahim bin Abdul Hamid indicated in his address in the event programme booklet that the partnership between AXP and UKM will ensure that undergraduates are given better exposure to the most current technological practices and provide a solid basis from a practical standpoint once they graduate.

Professor Dr. Mohd. Fauzi Mohd. Jani, The Dean of the Faculty of Economics & Business, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, representing the vice chancellor of UKM, Prof. Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Sharifah Hapsah Syed Hasan Shahabudin believes this kind of academia-industrial collaboration will further enhance creditable and dynamic of UKM accountancy programme.

The signing of the MoU, held in conjunction with International Management Accounting Conference  5 organized by UKM, was followed by dinner and a lively discussion of how the collaboration can be expanded in the future for the mutual benefit of UKM, AXP, MIA perhaps the most important of all, UKM accounting graduates who will provide the leaders of the future.
